Race is a social construct with implications and ramifications for being anything other white. As a society, we are yet to develop concrete solutions to the omnipresent, complex issue of race–an issue so abrasive it effortlessly disrupts the fabric of our society.
Here’s a point to ponder: Race Isn’t Real

The people in power, we know who that is, are going to try to discredit and deny this information no doubt. It seems to me, dividing us into these categories and putting labels on us is being used as a tool to pitch one against another. While we are busy fighting each other, we are distracted from what the few in power are doing to ensure they stay in power. It is the classic, divide and conquer.

Race is a social construct because race varies depending on where in the world you are. Much of this comes from appearances and wanting to categorize people. I could be considered white because of the color of my skin, but I am not. Dividing people based on skin color is to me the simplest definition of race because in countries like Brazil they classify people differently than they do here in the United States. The video in this blog post is a perfect example of how we view people as a society. Mexicans were at some point in time viewed as colored people and then as white and in present day were are being categorized as white once again. In Spanish the work race can be translated to Raza which is not used to categorize people, it is used to describe animals. In the end we are all the same race, the human race.
